My Diane by Michelle Seaman
Michelle Seaman’s poems march joyfully across the page as she makes sense of her memories of being treated for hip dysplasia, diagnosed in infancy. She weaves music, nature, and science into free verse that plays with white space and striking imagery to build narrative momentum. My Diane celebrates the milestones of a Midwestern girlhood—learning to dance the Twist, roaming outdoors with a beloved dog—while through it all shines the steadfast love of her mother, whose own youth comes vividly to life in the title poem.

Bookmaking at Red Bird
What makes Red Bird so special is every book is folded, scored, stitched, and “birded” by hand. Sometimes, it is a bookmaker working in her home in the quiet hours of the evening and sometimes it is a group of bookmakers who have come together around our table at our “nest” on a Sunday afternoon. The following video produced by Heather Quinn and narrated by editor Steve Merino is the making of Chiwenite Onyekwelu’s debut collection “Exiled.”
